IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM OUR SIDE
• It is important to contact and schedule the minister you wish to officiate your wedding early in the planning process. There is no guarantee that the minister will be available on your chosen wedding day.
• In order to complete the marriage registration, it is necessary to have the following documents ready for your initial meeting with the minister. This will enable the administrative tasks to be completed promptly.
1. Copies of the husband's and wife's ID documents.
2. Copies of the two witnesses' ID documents.
3. If divorced: supply a certified copy of the divorce court order.
4. If widow, widower: supply a certified copy of the death certificate.
5. A wedding out of community of property: ANC - deliver the covering letter from the lawyer (notary public) to the minister concerned.
6. Two ID photos (each) of the couple.
7. There will be fingerprints taken by the minister when you see him.
• The minister will give you a marriage certificate and a copy of the marriage register.
• After you are legally married, please make sure from Home Affairs that your marriage is registered. After approximately six months, sms your ID no. followed by M (eg 5911225086084 M) to 32551. They will send back a text stating your marital status and when you got married. Alternatively contact 0800 601 190 or visit dha.gov.za. You can also contact the offices in Pretoria at (021) 406 2660
• After your marriage has been registered, we recommend that you visit Home Affairs as soon as possible, with your marriage register copies, ID and marriage certificate to apply for the official marriage certificate ("Unabridged Marriage Certificate"). This is a yellow printed document that you will need for any changes, and there is a fee payable to Home Affairs when applying for this document.
• The minister in question will talk to you about the course of the ceremony. Please check with him with regards to his need for a microphone, podium, chair, water etc.
• Costs: Our ministers consider it a privilege to officiate your wedding and do not charge a fee for their services. However, we kindly request that any additional expenses associated with the ceremony are not placed upon the minister. Therefore, only the following practical arrangements need to be made:
- If you get married within 50km of Randburg, you do not have to bear any travel or accommodation costs.
- If you are getting married further than 50km from Randburg, we would appreciate it if you would vouch for the following:
* Travel costs (at R4.00 per km);
* Accommodation (bed and breakfast) for the minister and his wife; and
* R200 per meal they will be away from home.
